Four Lessons from My Second Time on Whole 30

Two years ago, I tried Whole30® for the first time and shared my tips with you in my post How to Thrive on Whole 30. It felt like the right time to try the program again. I’ve experienced four key differences this time around that I’m sharing with you below in hopes they will help you! Have you done the program more than once? Leave me a comment with any changes you experienced the second time around!

I find that mentally focusing on what you can have vs what you can’t makes it easier to stay positive.

1. Your Frame of Mind

Whenever anyone asked me what you can or can’t have while on Whole 30, I made a conscious effort to always focus on the positives. To simplify, I’d say “meat, vegetables and fruit.” I find that mentally focusing on what you can have vs what you can’t makes it easier to stay positive.

2. Get a Buddy

My fiancé joined me for this 30 day challenge. Having someone to cook with, commiserate with, and support you makes the experience way easier.

3. Make Eating Clean as Easy as Possible

I’m extremely fortunate that my work provides breakfast and lunch during weekdays, which is 10 meals per week already made for me! This makes choosing clean and approved options easy and free. Try to incorporate a CSA box from your local farm, Imperfect Produce or other food subscription services into your new routine to remove a barrier to eating clean.

4. Don’t sweat it!

Last time around, I went through a big learning curve to understand ingredient lists which made the experience less enjoyable. This time around, since I knew the ingredients to avoid, it was a lot faster to grocery shop or skim a menu. Though it’s not by the book, I wouldn’t stress out about every single ingredient when eating out, and would instead ask for a basic dish (ex. salad with olive oil and lemon), and hope for the best. I find this approach much for maintainable and less taxing mentally.

This time around, I ordered Daily Harvest (not sponsored) and chose smoothies and harvest bowls that had approved ingredients. Use my referral code RE-74VKKM7 for $25 off your your first box!
