Congrats Grads!
I'm so incredibly proud of my friends! I feel this way year-round, but yesterday was a special day celebrating on of my friends, Sydney's graduation with her masters! She's accomplished so much and I was beyond excited to celebrate with her, her family and a bunch of friends. It also helped that it was a beautiful Seattle day!
How to Thrive on the Whole30
Talk about a lifestyle post! Going on the Whole 30 has been a definite lifestyle change. You can read about it on their website to get more information, but it's essentially an elimination diet to cleanse yourself before reintroducing foods to test if you're intolerant to core groups of foods that typically cause people irritation such as gluten, dairy, added sugar and alcohol.
Summer Blues
As most people do, I got completely sucked into Target. I went for a routine errand and ended up stocking up on countless unnecessary but amazing items ranging from Whitney Port's paper plates, boxes of Larabars for Whole 30, summer nailpolish colors, and some pieces from the Who What Wear Target collection!
Lace in the Desert
So many of you on Instagram have asked where this romper is from! Though it looks like a maxi dress, this is a romper with shorts underneath. I wore this outfit for the second day of Coachella and it was by far my favorite! I felt glamorous, but still boho enough for the desert.
Before Coachella I went to Nordstrom and found this romper: Socialite Lace Overlay Romper. I originally bought it for another trip, and last minute decided to bring it - thankfully! Here are links to the same, or similar rompers! Take a look and click through to purchase the one you want!
Coachella 2017
I had the most amazing time dancing, singing, playing dress up and hanging out with great friends at Coachella this year! Four of us flew into LAX on Thursday morning where we rented a convertible through Turo. We met up with friends for lunch in Marina del Rey before hitting the road to Palm Springs!
We rented an AirBnB in Palm Springs which had a beautiful pool and interior. All of my logistics recommendations for Coachella can be found in my Coachella Guide. The first necessary stop in town was In-n-Out, followed by Costco so we could stock up on breakfast & lunch food and of course beer!
Where to Workout in Seattle with ClassPass
The other day I hit 280 taken classes on ClassPass! It's an arbitrary number, but it represents the past few years of working out regularly and finding new fitness interests. I'm here to share my favorite studios and classes to take around Seattle. I also love taking classes when I travel, so comment below if you'd like to see a post about my favorite spots in other cities (that aren't offered here in Seattle)! For a $30 credit, check out this link.
Your All-In-One Coachella Guide
It's almost here! Coachella is a 3-day music and arts festival that takes place in Indio, CA for two consecutive weekends each year. Known for it's trendy outfits, A-list attendees and headliner music, Coachella is the place to see and be seen every spring. With as glamorous and so very "LA" as Coachella seems, when I first went two years ago, I was pleasantly surprised by the normalcy of event and camaraderie between everyone there for the simple reason that everyone's there to have a great time!
Cherry Blossoms and Spring Outfit Staples
Every year a pilgrimage heads to The Quad at the University of Washington to see the rows of cherry blossom trees in bloom. As a Seattleite and UW alum, I honestly have taken the cherry blossoms for granted, as a consistent sign that spring has arrived. The Quad in bloom is beautiful and I'm glad it's become such an icon of the area where locals and visitors alike and come to celebrate the new season.
After fighting our way through the crowds to get our designated photo patch, my friend Neha and I shot away! White jeans, a basic T and beige accessories are perfect for spring and will be staples throughout the season into summer.
Seattle Style Summit
Anytime a group of like spirited individuals comes together, it's empowering. That's exactly how I felt after leaving Saturday's Seattle Style Summit put on by Gossip & Glamour. A room full of 100+ Seattle bloggers who were all there to learn, laugh, take photos and support each other. What a cool environment to be in as a new blogger!
Travel With Me: Berlin
On Friday I got back from a week in Berlin! My cousin Devin and I went to visit our other cousin, Nolan who has been living in Germany for the past few years. It was honestly a random trip for us - last Black Friday, Delta Airlines was having a huge sale so we ended up getting round-trip flights for $480! Can't beat that! Within the day, our flights were booked! Our spur of the moment idea finally arrived, and we were able to visit him!
In this post I'm going to share a breakdown of our week - what we did and where we ate, drank and shopped. Since we of course couldn't fit everything in Berlin in just a week, I'll be compiling resources and other recommendations in another post coming soon!
Demin Jackets for Spring
As big winter coats start to shed, it's time to stock up on lighter Spring jackets! Denim is a of my staples, so I want to share some of my favorites out this season! Denim jackets can be paired with just about anything, from dresses and skirts to other denim (if done tastefully).
Here I paired my jean jacket from Topshop with a dark blue top, black jeans and Converse - great for a casual day around town.
Frankie & Jo's
Happy Spring! Even if the weather in Seattle doesn't always align with the seasons, we can still hope for warmth and enjoy some ice cream!
Frankie & Jo's is a new spot on Capitol Hill that's been blowing up in the Seattle social media scene. Their palm wall paper has been the main driver of this I would guess.
Bar Melusine
One day I'll get into my Instagram location deep dives here on the blog. Until then, let's just say I've seen Bar Melusine countless times from bloggers around Seattle.
Bright, turquoise and French, there's not much more one could ask for aesthetically out of a restaurant. My friend Neha and I headed to Capitol Hill after work one day for a quick bite. Having seen Bar Melusine, I knew we had to check it out for ourselves. We ordered a cheese plate and sat back, recapping our day at work.
Travel With Me: Weekend in Vancouver, BC
Cheers! Last week was Brian's birthday, so for his gift, I wanted to get him an experience instead of a thing. It's our other friend Sydney's birthday in a few weeks, so her boyfriend and I surprised her and Brian with a weekend trip to Vancouver!
As you read about in my New Year's trip to Vancouver, I love popping up to Vancouver since it's such a close way to explore! We took a half day on Friday, loaded the car with snacks, and drove up to the boarder! Brian and Sydney were guessing the whole way about where we were headed, until we got to the boarder guard when the secret was finally revealed.
The Fat Hen
Weekends call for brunch! My aunt recently moved back to Seattle from Bahrain where she was living for the past few years. Since returning, it's given me an additional brunch-mate, which I'm ecstatic about!
Saturday morning, we headed to The Fat Hen in Ballard. With only a few tables, there's always a mob of patrons waiting out front. Luckily, The Fat Hen is across the street from a quaint coffee shop and bakery - Honore Artisan Bakery, making the wait go by quickly with a great cup of coffee. I didn't get one, but there was a ham and cheese croissant at Honore that looked so fluffy and delicious! That's on my list for next time.
Interview Like an Executive
I dove into interviewing tips in my recent article on LinkedIn: Interview Like an Executive.
Working for Starbucks has been an amazing opportunity for me to grow, develop, try new things and meet amazing people. In my previous role there, I worked with all of our executive-level candidates which is vice president and above. In this article, I share what areas executives would focus on to excel in their interviews - check it out!
Where to get a Mani/Pedi in Seattle
It's hard to go a few blocks in Seattle without spotting a nail salon. I've broken down my favorites to save you a few trips! Doing my own nails at home never looks as good - how are you supposed to paint your dominant hand?! This question has stumped me since youth.
Getting my nails done is definitely a treat, and I love getting both a mani and pedi, mostly for the massage chair! I go with shellac on my fingers since it doesn't chip and generally has a more consistent look while they're on. My nails do grow quickly, so shellac grows out in about a week and a half for me.
Travel With Me: Isla Mujeres
Brian and I grabbed an Uber from my work on a rainy Friday to head to SeaTac. We were off for an extended weekend on Isla Mujeres, which is a 5-mile long island off of the coast from Cancun, Mexico. We had only booked the trip a few weeks before, after two of my friends had come over for dinner, which turned into making vacation plans! We were graciously able to stay with them, so Brian and I jumped on the opportunity for a tropical getaway!
Unlike staying in Cancun, which can be touristy, Isla is a lot slower paced. We stayed in my friend’s house, making it low barrier to entry as far as vacations go. There are still quite a few tourists on the island, but most are there for the day, and my friend’s place is on the opposite end of the island from the ferry and main beach, so it can feel remote at her place.
Romping Around Isla
Rompers are by far the easiest thing to throw on in warm climates for either day or night! This look is as simple as it gets - a romper, sandals and a choker! This striped, nautical inspired romper is from Nordstrom last year and the sandals and choker from Forever 21! What a cute look with so few pieces!
Glowing Vacation Skin
One thing Seattle certainly doesn’t have is humidity. The warm, humid air of Isla Mujeres helps keep your skin hydrated and dewy (when it’s not sweaty). I’ll be doing a series of posts on my recent trip to Isla, which is a small island off of Cancun, Mexico. My boyfriend Brian and I went for five days with another couple, one of whose dad has a place there. This was my third time to the island, and each time the reality of it always outshines my memories. Over the next few posts, I’ll be giving outfit suggestions and recommendations for the island, so stay tuned!
