Healthy Bonez
I rarely get over to Kirkland, but when I do it's typically around a Bassline mash-up class. My friend and I headed for an early Saturday class then to Healthy Bonez's new permanent location in Totem Lake.
Bassline opened a new location on Pike St in Capitol Hill, but they don't offer mash-up, so I still head to Kirkland for that. It's a unique mix of spin and other cardio with music videos playing which makes the killer workout fun.
Topshop Leather Jacket
Nordstrom is my go-to for basics. They have a wide array of styles and prices for any of the staples I may need - jeans, shoes, and jackets. I was in need of a faux-leather jacket, so Nordstrom was naturally my first stop where I picked up this Topshop Nelly Faux Leather Biker Jacket.
Beneath Seattle + The London Plane
I've lived in Seattle the majority of my life, but somehow had never done an Underground Tour. My dad gave me a book about the history of Seattle's topography for Christmas, and it inspired my cousin and I to finally take the tour to learn more about our city!
If you have no idea what an Underground Tour is, I don't blame you. I had heard about it and had an idea of what it was... but let me share what I learned.
SoulCycle Bellevue
It's finally here! Since first trying SoulCycle at a pop up shop in Park City for Sundance, I've been waiting for it to come to Seattle! I frequent FlyWheel a decent amount, but I love that SoulCycle doesn't use RPMs or resistance as your metric to keep up throughout class, but goes by the song beat. I find this less distracting than focusing on making sure I'm within a certain range every few seconds.
Pressed Juicery Freezes
I love a good juice, so when I first saw that Pressed Juicery was 1 | coming to Seattle and 2 | has freezes (frozen juices with toppings aka healthy froyo), I couldn't wait to try it!
My cousin and I went downtown for some window shopping a few weekends ago, and had to pick up freezes despite it being barely 40*F outside. We headed to Westlake Center and found the little shop tucked in the back. Half of the back wall was juice-filled refrigerators and the other half looked like a froyo shop wall, housing the freezes. My cousin opted for the fruit flavored base.
Womxn's March Seattle
Yesterday, over 100,000 women, men, and children of all ages, beliefs, orientations, religions, nationalities, and ethnicities peacefully flooded the streets of downtown Seattle. Wow.
My friend Sydney and I waited at a bus to head downtown, but after three full busses of pink hats passed us, we hopped in her car to drive instead. We surprisingly zoomed downtown, parking by the city Target for $7 which was a huge contrast to the $100+ Uber surcharge that had been happening earlier in the day to Judkins Park where the march was starting.
Faux Fur
This MLK weekend, I headed back up to Snoqualmie for a great three-days off! I typically don a puffy coat any time I go out in the snow, but for the sake of being fashionable, I wore this tan suede and faux-fur lined coat from Forever 21. It was from last year, but similar styles are still available. It's a great, warm layering piece over any neutral!
Saint Helens Cafe
I've been wanting to try Saint Helens Cafe in Ravenna for a while, so off we went! It's on Montlake just East of University Village. When you walk in, there's this adorable seating area that's pictured above. Upstairs is the restaurant, which is pretty tight quarters, but beautifully designed!
Brian and I sat down, I ordered an iced coffee with almond milk and Brian ordered a beer. Hey - it's 5 o'clock somewhere!
On-the-Go Smoothies
I bought something off Instagram! I love trying subscription boxes and the new delivery start-ups, so I was a total sucker when I saw an ad for Daily Harvest on Instagram in early December.
Brian and I were doing a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box that delivered organic, local vegetables to us every week, so I thought this would be a great addition to my daily routine, where I could have a smoothie in the morning, and veggies throughout the day. The moral of this, is that I generally try to avoid going to the grocery store as much as possible.
Back to the Daily Grind
Just as quickly as it started it seems, holiday break is over! Back to commutes, meetings and a mailbox full of emails. Luckily for me I love meetings (actually), so after a week off, I was ready to kickstart a new year of work. In mid-December, I earned a promotion, so I especially had exciting things to come back to in this new year!
I am saying 'earned' intentionally because there is extensive evidence that women in particular downplay their successes. This was a huge accomplishment for me, one that I developed toward for quite a while, prepared for, and ultimately earned! I'm very proud of this, and encourage everyone, and especially women, to celebrate and acknowledge hard work - you deserve to!
Homemade Açaí Bowls
I love waking up to an Açaí bowl! This morning I took a 10:30 CorePower Yoga Sculpt class (in my new Lululemon workout gear!) with one of my good friends, Marissa. If I'm going to a workout class where I know I'll need a ton of energy, I always make sure to eat about two hours before.
Once I was awake, I headed downstairs to make a pot of coffee and started on my bowl! The ingredients list is below! Today I used an Açaí puree packet from Trader Joes. I also really like the Sambazon packs, and find that they're sweeter than these TJ ones. In my blender, I added half of a banana, this puree pack, a hand-full of mixes frozen berries from Costco, and almond milk. My blender isn't the strongest, so I always have to add in almond milk as it blends to make sure everything gets broken down. And that's it! So easy! I pour the base into a bowl and head to the fun part - toppings!
Travel With Me: Vancouver
Why not go to Vancouver!?
That was my thought process when Brian jetted off to Atlanta to watch the Huskies play in the Peach Bowl (Go Dawgs!). I had wanted to go to a bowl game if it involved sun – so Pasadena or Phoenix, but I didn’t have a huge interest in going to the Atlanta game despite it being so exciting for Husky history. So while he was gone for four days, I decided to head to Vancouver for a night with my mom!
The Mountains
Snow is something I always look forward to about the winter. Seattle winters are typically rainy, so being able to get away to the mountains to ski, lounge in a cabin, and hot tub is the ideal getaway (besides somewhere tropical).
This year, I took the week between Christmas and New Years off, so I was able to spend four nights at my boyfriend, Brian's family cabin at Snoqualmie Pass here. With extended family and friends popping in and out, it's the perfect mix of activity and relaxation. Snoqualmie Pass is about an hour East of Seattle, so it's an easy drive to feel like you're in a completely different place!
